Man, do I wish I was more into BG3, because that fandom is eating well. I canβt remember ever being all too hyped for it when it first came out and I think I got likeβ¦ immediate hype fatigue. Or maybe even reactive hype fatigue (except within the first week of release. Soβ¦ unfairly expedited hype fatigue, maybe.) Itβs definitely not a bad game, I actually have a lot of respect for it, I think I just never clicked with it. Iβm hoping that with this playthrough, maybe Iβll finally find something to love about it, but itβs one of those things where I looked at all of the primary characters and just didnβt feel a pull to any of them. Theyβre not bad in any way, I just never really got that spark of, βOh my god, I love this little bitch!β that I often feel moments before finding a new fictional special interest.
So this time around, Iβm playing it heavily modded just to go through the storyline and finally get to know the characters and see if I wind up liking them by the end.
Iβve got them essentially cosplaying my OCs for a little extra dopamine to keep me motivated. Shadowheart is currently cosplaying my OC, Krist, and I low-key love it, though I feel like when I find Karlach, Iβm going to swap the Krist cosplay over to her. From what Iβve seen of Karlach, I feel like she and Krist have the most similar personalities.
I turned Tav into Evangeline and Astarion into her twin brother, August. I went into this knowing that Astarion is a bit sassy by nature and figured thatβd align well with August, who is also an aristocratic little shit. But holy fck, I did not expect Astarion to be that catty. Itβs almost too much to see him cosplaying August. One of my friends once suggested that Gortash might be a better fit and Iβm low-key thinking maybe I might swap them later, weβll see.
Last night I played up to the point where they recruit Gale. So far, my party is just Tav, Astarion, Shadowheart, and Gale. Shadowheart is kind of my favorite so far, she just feels the most like a vibe. But Iβm also low-key getting tsundere or even yandere vibes. I donβt know much about her storyline yet, Iβve seen spoilers but didnβt care enough to commit them to memory so itβs a spoiler semi-free playthrough, somehow.
I think at one point, someone told me the entire Astarion storyline but it really went in one ear and out the other, rip.
Something-something, vampire, his boss sings a musical bit, homeboyβs avoidant-attachment as heck due to trauma from said musical boss guy, at some point he can get zapped by Dr. Evilβs solar powered laser beam, and then βAscendedβ Astarion or something.
I donβt know what that means, but okay.
Iβm sure itβll make sense at some point.
Gale so far isβ¦ Iβm on the fence, like, heβs mostly entertaining but then heβll say something that leaves me cringing but maybe thatβs part of his appeal, heβs like just one of those people who have high natural charisma but really low wisdom, but conversationally. (I feel you, bro.)
Maybe Iβll periodically blog about my BG3 thoughts.
Itβs actually been such a long time since I played a game that wasnβt open-ended. Project Zomboid has been my jam for the better part of the last three years, maybe four? Nightingale and Enshrouded were pretty big time blocks as well, both are also open-ended and not very story-driven. I actually canβt remember the last game I played that had an actual storyline going on. Maybe the campaign mode in Anno 1800.
So yeahβ¦ thatβs a thing that happened.
